How Door Handing Works On Prehung Orders

Learn how to identify left versus right swing and inswing versus outswing before selecting handing in the configurator.

Why handing matters

Handing controls how the prehung unit is built. If the swing direction is wrong, the frame and prep may still be technically complete, but the ordered unit can be wrong for the actual opening.

The four common options

  • left inswing
  • right inswing
  • left outswing
  • right outswing

The builder keeps these choices visible so the shopper does not have to guess which hidden option a website picked by default.

How to identify the correct handing

Stand on the side of the door where the swing direction is easiest to verify. Look at the hinge side, then confirm whether the door swings into the room or away from it. That combination determines whether the order should be left or right, inswing or outswing.

Before you submit the order

Confirm handing one more time alongside jamb depth and handle prep. If the space is confusing or the existing door setup is unusual, contact support before final checkout instead of assuming it will be easy to swap later.
